Riverside

Far to the north, the rivers lie frozen for most of the year. When the villages along the river finally become accessible, a small cruise company starts running trips: polar bear safaris, reindeer rides, ice fishing – and, with a bit of luck, the northern lights. The players are tour guides who must fill their boats with tourists.
Riverside is a roll-and-write game with a modular game board that sets the route of the round trip. Each round the dice are rolled into a shared pool, and everyone simultaneously chooses one die in a given colour and fills in seats on the matching boat on their own sheet. A full row is a sold group ticket, which scores points – and which counts for the rest of the game every time a village of that colour is visited.
High dice are tourists who are cold, and bringing them along costs campfire symbols. The transparent green die is the northern lights, which everyone wants to see, and it always costs campfires. Players are rewarded for pleasing all five kinds of tourists, so the choice is between scoring high in one colour or broadly across several.
