For Northwood! is a hand-management and trick-taking game for 1 player. Your goal is to unite the kingdom of Northwood peacefully through conversations with its rulers. Over eight rounds you visit eight animal groups and engage their rulers in dialogue (tricks). Each ruler’s suit acts as trumps, and each also requires you to win a specific number of tricks before joining your alliance, so the game gets harder as your options dwindle.
You start with four allies, each with an ability that can be used once per visit. These abilities let you draw cards, discard cards or otherwise manipulate your hand to help you reach the target. Once you have won a ruler over to your side, you can temporarily bring them in to replace one of your allies if you need a more specific set of abilities to tackle the harder rounds.
For Northwood! includes several difficulty levels, 24 rulers (12 used per game) and a book of 16 scenarios, and so offers hours of gameplay with a new challenge every time.
