Air, Land & Sea

As a general, you must carefully deploy your forces in three possible theatres: air, land and sea. If you control two out of three of these theatres, you win the current battle. But winning a single battle is not enough to win the game. In fact, you can sometimes surrender and lose a battle on purpose in order to win the larger war.
At the start of each battle you receive a hand of 6 cards. You do not draw any more cards, so you must form your strategy on the basis of these 6 cards and these 6 cards alone. Players take turns playing 1 card at a time until either all cards have been played or a player decides to surrender.
The order in which you play your cards is critical, and so is how you play them. Every card can be played either face up or face down. Face-up cards give you special powers but must be played in a matching theatre (for example, air cards must be played in the air). Face-down cards can be played to any theatre but give no special powers.
At the end of the battle, the winning player earns points based on how many cards are left in their hand. The fewer cards left in your hand, the more points you earn. This means the stakes get higher the longer a battle goes on. So it can sometimes be in your best interest to surrender - to deny your opponent further points.
