In Pylos the players jointly build a pyramid of balls in the players' 2 different colours. The players take turns placing a ball on the board of 4x4 spaces.
A player wins either by making the opponent run out of balls or by being the one who places the very last ball on top of the pyramid.
A player who manages to form a square in their own colour may remove one of their own balls from the board. A player who forms a square of mixed colours may take a 'free' ball from the board and place it on top, and so avoid playing one from their own supply.
The game also includes a variant in which a ball may be taken back when a player forms a straight line in their own colour.
