"My Brain Is A Stick of Butter" is a solo board game about living a week with ADHD, and how difficult it can be to balance all the tasks life expects you to complete. It takes about 30-60 minutes to play, after which you can step out of the game world and back into your real life. You will need the book (or a printout of the game sheet), a deck of playing cards, and a six-sided die to play.
Spend your days trying to get your work done, maintain your social relationships, do all your chores, and find time for enjoyment. It's not exactly meant to be a fun game to play, but I think you'll find it informative. You might not get everything done that you want to this week, but hopefully you'll learn a lot about life with ADHD after playing.
The game is designed to recreate the author's personal experience with the constant background wave of executive dysfunction stemming from ADHD. The card play and the brain die are intended as a representative indicator of the lack of agency he feels when choosing which tasks to focus on at any given moment. Many times, things go according to plan. But just as often, his mind and attention are pulled in another direction.
