Through the Ages: A New Story of Civilization is an updated version of Through the Ages: A Story of Civilization. There are both major and minor changes compared with the original game, but the most marked difference lies in the way the military works.
Each player tries to build up their own civilisation by carefully managing resources, inventing new technology, choosing the right leaders, building wonders and maintaining a strong military. Weaknesses in any area can be exploited by your opponents. In time, the game runs all the way from antiquity to the end of the modern age. Over the course of the game, technologies, wonders and leaders become available, and the longer they have been available, the easier they are to get hold of. Inventing new technologies requires science, population and building materials. At the same time you want a strong military, and that takes resources too. Many choices have to be made and priorities set firmly if you are to be the player who ends up with the richest culture and so wins.
