After Us is a card-building and resource management game with an original and intuitive combination system, where players each lead a tribe of apes. Starting with only tamarins, they combine their cards each turn to collect resources and victory points, attracting new apes to their tribe along the way: powerful gorillas, resourceful orangutans, versatile chimpanzees and clever mandrills. The first player to reach 80 points wins the race for collective intelligence – and the game.
2083. Humanity became extinct decades ago, leaving behind only remnants of its time on Earth. Over time, nature reclaimed land everywhere. In this reborn world, the apes have continued to evolve. They have gathered in tribes, grown, mastered human objects, and progressed in their quest for knowledge. As the leader of such a tribe, you must guide it towards collective intelligence.
To win a game of After Us, you must reach 80 victory points before your opponents do. On each turn, players simultaneously draw the top 4 cards from their deck and combine them in front of them to form small boxes that must be activated. They can then activate each box, from left to right, to gather resources, gain victory points, and unleash their apes' special abilities. The essence of the game lies in making the smartest combinations to achieve what you need at a given time, depending on the cards you have drawn. Once the activation phase is over, players can add an ape to their tribe: a chimpanzee, a gorilla, a mandrill, or an orangutan. The choice depends on both the currently available resources and the abilities of the ape they are looking for.
