Hive is a two-player strategy game that is not limited by a board and can be played anywhere on any flat surface. The base game of Hive consists of 22 pieces, eleven black and eleven white, that resemble a variety of creatures, each with its own unique way of moving.
Without any setup, the game begins when the first piece is placed. As subsequent pieces are placed, a pattern is formed that becomes the playing surface. (The pieces themselves become the board.) Unlike other similar games, pieces are never eliminated, and it is not necessary to play them all. The object of the game is to completely surround the opponent's queen, while trying to prevent the opponent from doing the same with his queen. The first player to completely surround the opponent's queen wins the game.
Hive Ultimate is the same great game, but now includes all the expansions: Ladybug & Mosquito and Pillbug. This edition also includes a strategy tips booklet. All in one ziplock bag, take it anywhere and play. Pocket version also available.
Competitive Hive players consider Hive PLM (Hive with Pillbug, Ladybug and Mosquito) to be the standard for playing in official tournaments. The game is much more fun and in-depth. Try it, you'll never want to play the old Hive again!
