After Us is a deck-building and resource management game with an original and intuitive combination system, in which each player leads a tribe of apes. Starting with tamarins only, they combine their cards every turn to gather resources and victory points, attracting new apes to their tribe along the way: powerful gorillas, resourceful orangutans, versatile chimpanzees and wise mandrills. The first player to reach 80 points prevails in the race for collective intelligence – and wins the game.
2083. Humanity died out decades ago, leaving only remnants of its time on Earth. Over time, nature reclaimed the land everywhere. In this reborn world, the apes have continued to evolve. They have gathered in tribes, grown, mastered human objects and made progress in their quest for knowledge. As the leader of such a tribe, you must guide it towards collective intelligence.
To win a game of After Us, you have to reach 80 victory points before your opponents do. Each turn, the players simultaneously draw the top 4 cards of their deck and combine them in front of them to form small frames to be activated. They can then activate each frame, from left to right, to gather resources, gain victory points and trigger their apes' special abilities. The heart of the game lies in making the cleverest combinations to get what you need at a given moment, depending on the cards you have drawn. Once the activation phase is over, players may add an ape to their tribe: a chimpanzee, a gorilla, a mandrill or an orangutan. The choice depends both on the resources currently available and on the abilities of the ape sought.
