Catan Traders And Barbarians Expansion 2025
In stock at the following stores: Games København, Games Aarhus
Traders & Barbarians is distributed as the third major expansion for The Settlers of Catan, although it is actually a collection of smaller expansions and variants. (It is independent of the Seafarers and Cities & Knights expansions, but can be combined with them.)
All the variants and three of the scenarios have been available from various sources in Europe and the USA or via official websites. The great rivers and the fishermen of Catan have been expanded somewhat in this expansion with extra tiles and player pieces.
This collection contains 5 scenarios:
The Fishermen of Catan - Originally published in Spielbox magazine 05/2006 and then published in Games Quarterly magazine. Expanded in this edition.
The Rivers of Catan - Originally published in the Atlantis scenario box, later in Games Quarterly magazine as "The Great River". Expanded in this edition to include two rivers, one that takes up 4 hexes and one that takes up 3.
The Great Caravan - Originally published as a free expansion in Germany.
Barbarian Invasion - New in this edition. - Barbarians invade Catan, and the players must try to stop them with new knight pieces. This works much like the flood mechanic in the Atlantis scenario from the Atlantis and Das Buch scenario packs.
Traders and Barbarians - New in this edition. - You get new hexes, one for the castle, one to produce glass and one to produce marble. You are trying to rebuild Catan after the invasion. You receive gold and victory points if you complete tasks in the castle, but to do so you must travel back and forth to the castle along roads and undeveloped paths. There are still some barbarians around who disrupt the trade routes.
It also contains 4 smaller variants:
Rules for 2 players - Use the new "Commercial chips" to force trade with your opponent. Use the 3rd and 4th neutral player to block your opponent. Also available online: Klaus2player.pdf
Catan Event Cards - Originally published in the Atlantis scenario box, but later published separately. Replaces the dice with a set of cards to minimise randomness.
The Harbourmaster card - Originally published in the Atlantis scenario box, later available online: harbormaster.pdf. Gives two victory points to the player with the most harbour points.
