Caylus
The year is 1289 and to strengthen the borders of France, King Philip the Fair has decided to build a new castle in the humble village of Caylus. Soon, however, it will be filled with workers and craftsmen seeking their fortune. Around the construction site, the city flourishes and the players are the master builders of Caylus, building on the castle, developing the city around it and trying to earn as many prestige points as possible.
Each turn, players pay their workers in the various buildings in the city. These buildings allow players to collect resources or money, which can then be used to build the castle itself, build new buildings, or upgrade existing ones. You need to find the right balance between building the castle, which gives prestige points, and making sure you have a strong resource machine to win in Caylus.
Caylus is a classic that, over ten years after its release, is still hugely popular with people who like heavier strategy games with lots of planning and resource management.
