Condotierre
You are in Italy in the 13th century. Trade is flourishing between the city-states and the large cities, which are overflowing with wealth. But the city-states have weak armies and now that the soldiers have returned from the Crusades, there is an abundance of skilled, fighting men in the country. Gradually, the city-states begin to hire these men, condotierres, and fight among themselves for power.
The objective in Condotierre is to capture four contiguous provinces. This is accomplished through cunning card play, which brings assassins, seasons, scarecrows, and politicians to the table. Bidding is required and constantly assessing how many troops each player is willing to commit to winning each province.
Condotierre is an excellent little game that will probably get both the little ones and the fighting spirit working overtime.
