Crokinole is a board game that has some similarities with pitchnut, curling, and shove ha'penny. Players take turns flicking discs across the circular playing board, with the aim of hitting the highest-scoring areas, while also attacking and knocking opponents' discs off the board. The game is particularly popular in North America.
The game is for two or four players (in the latter case, it is played in teams). The board is divided into three concentric rings, corresponding to 5, 10, and 15 points respectively (counted from the edge). In the center, there is a small hole worth 20 points, and the innermost 15-point ring is protected by eight small pegs. The discs used are about the size of draughts pieces and slightly smaller than the hole in the center of the board; there are typically 12 discs per team/player. The discs can also be rings similar to those known from carrom. Similar to carrom, you can choose to reduce friction on the board with, for example, potato flour.
The game's objective is for each team to take turns flicking a disc onto the board, typically with their fingers, but it can also be done with a cue, as is known from carrom. If there are opponent's discs on the board, you must hit one of them; otherwise, the disc that was shot will be removed from the board. If a disc falls into the hole, it is removed from the board, and the team it belongs to receives 20 points. When all discs have been flicked onto the board, the points for the two teams are counted, and the winner is the team that has achieved the most points.
