Dead of Winter is a cooperative game that places players in the middle of a zombie apocalypse a la the TV series The Walking Dead. As in popular culture, the zombies in Dead of Winter act mostly as a catalyst, putting players under pressure in impossible and life-threatening situations, where there is perpetual suspicion about the motives of their fellow players.

The game contains different scenarios that change the way you win from game to game. The intrigue and suspicion are established by the players having personal goals that they are assigned at the beginning of the game. The individual player can only win if his or her personal goals have also been fulfilled by the end of the game. This often leads the players to take irrational and counterproductive actions that are contradictory to the group's common goals. Accusations are flying through the air from the beginning of the game and you can never be sure. Especially because one of the players may turn out to be a traitor whose goal is to bring down the other players.

Dead of Winter is perhaps the zombie game that captures the zombie genre best, with all the intrigue, distrust, and deceit that goes with it.
