Innovation Ultimate is a box containing Innovation and all five expansions, including a brand-new expansion titled The Unseen. Many, many updates have been made for this edition. First of all, Age 11 has been added, representing the recent past and the potential near future at the time of release. A great deal of wording and mechanics has been streamlined, and the expansions in particular have been heavily reworked to be more accessible and easy to include during play.
Innovation is Carl Chudyk's tableau builder of endless possibilities, taking you on a journey from prehistory all the way to the present day ... and the near future. In this game you build a civilisation using cards alone; there is no map, no pieces, no dice, no tokens. The game's 115 innovations are each represented by a card with a unique effect, organised into eleven ages. Each innovation's effect is thematically tied to its identity, allowing you either to advance your society or to attack your opponents.
As well as affecting your opponents directly, you can share in the effects of their technologies if you collect enough visible icons on your board. Building your tableau strategically is crucial to success, so you will often spread out across categories and defend yourself against demands.
To win you must claim achievements, which you can earn by collecting points or by meeting certain criteria with the innovations you have built. No two games of Innovation play out the same way.
