Den originale 166 MM gav Ferrari mærkets første sejr i Le Mans i 1949 og vandt samme år Mille Miglia. Karrosseriet er tegnet af Touring, og ordet barchetta — lille båd — blev navnet på den åbne form. KK Scale laver også modellen med løbsnumre; denne er gadeudgaven.
