Puerto Rico
Puerto Rico is the classic trading and resource game set on the Caribbean island of Puerto Rico. Players, as local governors, compete to establish the most profitable plantations and sell sugar, cocoa, coffee, etc. to Europe.
Each player has their own board where they must build new buildings, hire colonists to work in the plantations, and start harvesting the valuable crops.
Puerto Rico is on the heavier end of the complexity scale and there is very little luck in the game, which means that the little greys have to work overtime if you want to be successful.
The game was released in 2002 and has had a major influence on modern board game design. The game's qualities are also emphasized by the fact that the game still sells very well.
