Karakuri-æsker bygger på de traditionelle hemmelige æsker fra Hakone-Odawara i Japan. Hver æske har sin egen mekanisme, opfundet af Karakuri Creation Groups egne designere, og nogle åbnes med et enkelt træk, andre kræver en lang række skub, drej og ryst. Hver æske er skåret og samlet i hånden.
