Japan's sakoku ("closed country") period is over. The Meiji Restoration is in full swing, and a technological explosion has taken over the country, with the locomotive as the leading symbol of modernization. The island of Shikoku is no exception, as railway operations begin to spring up everywhere and entrepreneurs try to make a fortune.
In Shikoku 1889, you play as these entrepreneurs who start and run railway companies to build Shikoku's railway network. The goal is to achieve greater wealth than your competitors by the end of this railway revolution.
