Where the original The Resistance is set in a dark and gloomy future, this time it is the legend of the "Knights of the Round Table" that serves as the thematic backdrop for the game.
In The Resistance: Avalon, players will take on the role of Knights of the Round Table, embarking on five missions to defeat the evil Mordred and his dark forces. However, Mordred's spies are everywhere, and even among the Knights of the Round Table, there are some who are not quite up to the task.
In The Resistance: Avalon, players are initially assigned a role card that tells them whether they are honorable knights or nefarious spies. The spies know who each other is, but the knights are on a roll to begin with. Over the course of the five missions that the game lasts, the knights must deduce who they can trust. But they must hurry. If the spies succeed in sabotaging three missions, the knights have lost and Mordred and the spies have won. At the same time, the spies must be careful, because the knights win as soon as they have completed three missions.
The Resistance: Avalon is a game of deduction, bluff, lies, double-dealing, and social interaction. It is largely a player-driven game that requires participants to interact with each other.
The Resistance: Avalon is played in the same way as the original The Resistance, but it's not just old wine in new bottles. Avalon introduces completely new roles such as Merlin, who knows about the spies but is not allowed to reveal himself. This gives the game a whole new dynamic.
A fantastic game and perhaps the best in the genre.
