Voidheart Symphony is a roleplaying game about ordinary people fighting the good fight against supernatural forces that seek to control, diminish, and disempower them. The revised edition (new for 2025) expands the setting and updates the rules.
Players are rebels, individuals striving to protect the people and places they love from the malevolent forces of the Castle. They fight in the real world, studying their targets and learning their weaknesses, then delve into their enemies’ psychic palaces to defeat them. No group of rebels can stand alone: they draw strength from their friends, their families, and the surrounding communities—something the Castle’s coercion and control cannot compete with.
The gameplay combines investigation and maintaining an everyday life (someone has to pay the rent) with cinematic combat, and delivers stories of a specific group of people making their corner of the world better. It’s about strength, hope, and triumph—though not without cost.
With Apocalypse-powered mechanics, it is perfectly tailored to the stories players want to tell, and it is easy to learn for anyone who has played other PbtA games.
Use the brand new Kick in the Door chapter as a guided tutorial to learn as you play, then move on to long-term campaigns or short one-shots with equally satisfying results.
