In the Middle Ages in Volterra, Tuscany, it was customary for rival families to compete to build buildings. The taller the tower, the wealthier the family. To this day, the remnants of this competition - the "dynasty towers" - are still visible in many Tuscan towns.
Wealth is not important in the tactical game Volterra . Here, the towers rise thanks to the tactical skills of the master builders. The game pieces are stacked on top of each other step by step. The playing pieces do their utmost to defend towers of their own color. Construction continues on the shrinking playing area until no pieces can move. Who now sits atop the tallest tower?
