Til forskel fra de fleste områdekontrolspil, hvor man enten spiller mod hinanden eller sammen, kan Wroth spilles på alle tre måder med samme æske: konkurrence, samarbejde eller solo. Terninger drafttes, ressourcer samles, tropper sættes ind, og fraktionerne har hver deres evner. Opsætningen tager et kvarter, og et parti er overstået på en time.
