Catan (also known as Settlers or Settlers of Catan) is perhaps the most popular board game of recent times, and a game that has had an enormous influence on the industry.
In Catan the players are settlers competing to become the most successful colonist on the island of Catan. Catan is made up of a number of terrain tiles that give the players different resources. The players use these resources to build new roads, settlements and cities.
The island is assembled from hexagonal tiles before the game begins, so the starting point is different from game to game, which gives a great deal of variation.
During the game the players can trade with each other, so it is possible to get hold of the resources they do not have access to.
Catan owes its success above all to its combination of luck and strategy. Players are rarely bored, because resources are handed out on everyone's turns, and because players can trade with each other there is a good deal of interaction between them.
A genuine classic.
Note: the English edition of Catan has wooden pieces and larger cards than the Danish one, so it only works with other English expansions.
